Philippa Edwards
Encroachment
Created by, Philippa Edwards
Philippa Edwards uses layering techniques to create reliefs and highly textured paintings. Her palette is often dictated by the materials she works with: mundane building supplies such as plasterboard, adhesive, metal and timber are mixed with paper, oil paint, gesso, pigments and shellac. Drawings stem from closely observing objects and considering the wider envionment before starting to draw, and then devolping the drawing into an object in its own right. Sculptures take inspiration from natural forms. The work aims to reflect on the passing of time and the impact of humanity on the landscape.
