I hand build with a smooth white clay using pinch/coil techniques. I aim to make elegant/classical forms, often urns, almost always on very small bases, precarious but balanced and distinctive due to my preferred mild disorder, most commonly by the stretching/tearing and peeling of the upper edges. Once the piece is leather hard I burnish with a small heart shaped rose crystal. After bisque firing I expose the pieces to the whims of brief but fierce burning amongst dry grasses, paper and wood shavings; the resulting colours, intensity and complexity never cease to astonish me.
