The Banana Painting
Created by, Madi Acharya-Baskerville
Madi Acharya-Baskerville is a British South Asian artist whose work is concerned with the synthesis of unlikely elements. Using objects, materials, textiles, song and conversation that resonate with her experience, she creates works which move fluidly between different media. 'The Banana Painting' in this submission, painted a piece of reclaimed wood found on the coast, refers to a sense of nostalgia, a longing for the homeland. Created during the lockdown, when the artist was unable to travel back to India, this work is inspired by a dense lush crop of banana trees in the artist's uncle's backyard in her homeland.
